Big Brother Canada Casting and Launch Details
June 28, 2012 |We’re oh so close to Big Brother 14 premiering that we just latch on to any good Big Brother 2012 gossip. And this one benefits our friends north of the border! As we previously reported Big Brother Canada will be making it’s english language debut in Canada in 2012/2013. We now have a few more details on the show including casting details. We’ve also got some info on where you can watch Big Brother: After Dark this year. Read on!

Beginning Thursday, July 12 faithful Canadian viewers will be able to catch all the latest action from the Big Brother (US) house 7 days a week on Shaw’s speciality channel Slice. Unfortunately, Big Brother: After Dark will air about 2 hours behind Showtime 2 – it will start at 2 am and run till 5 am. It’s unclear if it’ll be the pre-recorded version from Showtime or if it’ll actually be live. Will let you know if we find out.
And now for Big Brother Canada details! According to Shaw Media’s Advertising site casting for Big Brother Canada is expected to start this July (that’s next month!) and last until January of 2013. That gives you 7 months to perfect the perfect casting tape and make sure you make it into the Big Brother house!
ETA—–
Here are the actual dates thanks to the Shaw Media Advertising Site
- On Air Promotion for Casting – July 12
- Online Casting Submissions – August 10
- Cross country starts tour September 24
- House construction will start in September in Toronto and will contain and indoor/outdoor set
- Show will begin Feb 18 for 10 weeks with 3 one hour episodes per week
- Shows will include 2 pre-taped episodes and 1 live eviction episode
What is a little bit troubling in this advertising release is that they are open to sponsorship opportunities from companies who want to sponsor the series. That includes “Casting Call Partnership, Challenge Integration, Grand Prize provider, Branded rooms and more.” Branded rooms? Is it possible instead of the Have/Have Not Room we’ll have the Swiss Chalet presents the Have/Have Not Room?
I guess time will only tell! Are you applying for Big Brother Canada? Let us know in the comments!

It is awesome to finally have a show in which Canadians can compete in. If I am selected to be a houseguest, I will either be the first one voted off or I will win the whole thing. See you in the HOH room!

GREAT CANADIAN BACON
I have been waiting 10 years for this. I know I would make a great cast member. I get along with everyone, and can sell ice to Eskimos, and there is noting better then stirring up a little shit aswell.
I’m gutted! I’d love to be on Big Brother, and I’m very excited that it’s come to Canada, however, I wish it were more like the UK Big Brother, instead of the US version. BBUK is a far better program. I’ve been watching for years. Tried to check out BBUSA, but it’s just not the same. I might tune into the CDN version though, just to see what it’s like. If it were anything like the UK version though, with the public vote and the way they set up the house dynamics I defo would have auditioned.
finally! it’s about time. for as long as i can remember i’ve wanted to be part of big brother. and well i’m pretty young, so i was never able to. but next year, in april, i’ll be 18, so i’ll be able to go on! it’d be an amazing experience!
p.s; dick, jeff, and jordan are amazing! ♥
I love big brother! I have watched every single season of big brother in the USA. I would love to try it..I’m so happy that they have finally brought it into canada for us Canadians who would like a chance to play and win, or just have an adventure.
Thanks Crystal
I’ve been watching BB since the second season. Always wished they had a Canadian version. I’m the older, wiser, been there, done that, kinda show you young punks what’s up person. I can be very competitive and will give the other players a run for their money. Choose me and let the drama begin!
I love big brother I am a huge fan ever since i was a kid I am young and full of energy I would be the Big brother dominater Pick me and you wont regret it

I’d love to apply but I have no idea how?? Help me!
you think evil Dick was evil you haven’t seen me yet hahaha
I think this would be a great chance to kick some ass! Seriously BB Canada! Woot Woot! I’m a totally competative, head strong chick, and when things go sour, why not add that extra bit of influence to keep it entertaining! Haha, well I hope I get picked cause, it’ll be a fun season with me
I really really really wanna apply but I will only be 18 at the time, will that be ok? thanks
Heck ya I am going to apply!!! I think a personal trainer from BC would be great to put on the show
a 25 year old female with tons of spunk and attitude who loves personal training and winning competitions and has never missed a season would be the perfect fit. PICK ME!!!
I’m looking forward to bb Canada, but I’m 100% not looking forward the the USA format of the show. I find that strategizing, alliance making, and all the whispering throughout the season isn’t only annoying, but it’s also very tiring, as you never really see the housemates act in a genuine way.
Big Brother wasn’t made for that reason. It was made for the audience to learn about the people in the house and how they act on a day to day basis. And for the audience to make the final decision on who stays every week (by calling in they’re eviction votes, or posting on the BB website).
If the audience chooses who stays and who goes, the housemates don’t always talk about strategy, and you actually get to listen to some very interesting conversations, not about gameplay, but about their actual lives, past experiences, ect…
I’ve seen several different BB’s from several differnt countries (UK, Australia, Sweden, India, and USA) and the “Americanized” version of BB is a complete different format than all the others, wherein all the housemates are just fighting all the time in alliances.
In all other BB’s the housemates aren’t even allowed to talk about nominations at all to one another or be punished (quite severely in many cases). Alliances don’t form and the house is much less bitchy and a lot more funny and enjoyable to watch.
Tasks they do are almost on a day to day basis, and they all work together to try and win them. Food tasks can run for 2-4 days, and its the whole house working together to either get a large shopping budget for winning the task or failing the task as a whole and get a basic shopping budget. There is a lot more teamwork in the house since it’s basically the housemates versus Big Brother.
Also, in the other countries of BB, the show is an hour long EVERY day, not just 3 times per week, along with live feeds. If any of you who watch the US version would watch a UK version, I would bet you would like the UK much better for the laughs and the enjoyment of the show. You can watch some of them on youtube ( I think ).
I do hope Canada doesn’t stick with the americanized version of big brother. There are already too many reality shows that strive on the alliance-strategizing scenarios and I think we can do better than that.
What you just described was Season 1 of Big Brother in the USA and it failed miserably. American’s much prefer this version of the game as ratings have increased dramatically since that first season.
Formats are not a one-size-fits-all for countries around the world.
Almost every country’s season one of bb didnt do well, except netherlands, mostly because it was new and no one really heard about it, or just not very entertaining players. Many countries didnt come back for a second season. Those that did recieved a larger budget, and they had to find people that would actually keep viewers entertained. Only the usa decided to change their format. The second season did well, but I dont think it was all due to the format change, it was mostly the players who entered that were entertaining. In other countries they kept the same format, but had better tasks, and more entertaining housemates.
“Formats are not a one-size-fits-all for countries around the world.”
I agree that sometimes formats need to be changed to meet the demand of the people. But, Canada is already 13 years late into launching big brother, and for the most part, the only thing most Canadians have had to watch for big brother was the usa version. We are already bombarded with the drama version of reality t.v. that is all done with alliances and coniving, backstabbing, etc. Why not make the housemates play against big brother and make it a less stressfull and more hystarical show. I’d rather laugh through a game show than be angry many of the players.
Just because the usa people like a lot of drama and fighting in a show doesn’t mean that Canadians do.
I hear you. Trust me, I usually love the European versions of shows and then they come over to North America and are basterdised. But like you said, the Canadians know the American version way more then the European versions and it wouldn’t make any sense if they didn’t adopt the American format.
I am for sure applying, this is totally cool, I love big brother
I def. Would like to try out fir big brother canada
I am sooo applying! I’m very competitive, I speak my mind, and very entertaining. can’t stand to lose so I will give it 110%. If u choose me I swear u wont regret it! I LOVE BIG BROTHER!
P.S GO JANELLE’S TEAM!!
I sooo wanna audition for big brother Canada!! How and when can I?:)

This could get interesting…that is, if I make it on the show
I can’t wait for more BB! Would welcome the chance to be on the show!
I am so excited that Big Brother is coming to Canada!!! Cant wait to sign up
I soo badly want to be on this show!! Love Love Love Big brother! Cant wait to Apply!!
This will be very interesting. To see the Canadian perspective in the house will be insane! With all of the amazing people we have in this country I am uber excited to see the cast and definatly hope that I can break through and be one of them!!
Good luck to all who apply, its gonna be a blast!!
I am big fan and would love to be able to a cast member. My only concern is that they will only cast guys with wash board stomachs! If thats the case then I have some working out to do!!!!! Let us “pleasently plump” people have a chance to play the game!
I am so excited for this. When is the casting for this as i am the next Mike “Boogie” and gonna rock this house.
AUDITION TAPE IN THE WORKS ! Spontaneous energetic and a keen knowledge for life is who I am! 10 years later and finally here’s my shot! Cant wait until the house guests are revealed and see what awesome Canadians make the show, EH !
Id love to be a contestant but I’m terrified what people would say. I don’t want personal mistakes in my past to be plastered all over the media so people could make my life hell just for the fun of it. But I’ll give it a shot. Besides, they need a Saskatchewan girl to liven things up. We’re not as boring as you think
