We can’t help it. The first time we saw Big Brother 2014 cast member Donny Thompson, all we could think was Duck Dynasty. Turns out, however, that Donny is actually just a cool Big Brother fan who seems like an honestly nice guy who might just be in way over his head.
From his pre-season interviews, school groundskeeper Donny comes across as friendly, hard-working, and just, well, nice. He was encouraged by his girlfriend to apply for Big Brother 16 and says he is a superfan that just can’t wait to play the game. Donny is just such a character that it’s kind of hard to believe he is real. Unlike the Duck Dynasty folks, however, we think he really is geniune.

What do you think will be the most difficult part about living inside the Big Brother house: I’ve lived alone for over 21 years so living with a large group of people would be a huge adjustment.
Do you have a strategy for winning Big Brother?: Lay low in the beginning, befriend all, constantly observe others and make wise decisions on who I align with.
Which past Big Brother cast member did you like most: I liked Spencer because he was nominated so many times without going home. He was a likable person that I could relate to.
What are you afraid of: Heights, mice, and public speaking.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of: I paid cash for my house.

What would you take into the house and why: My favorite pair of overalls, my favorite hat and chewing tobacco.
What would you do if Big Brother made you famous: I would try to be the same person I have always been. Only, more people would know me.
Donny is a small town guy whose claim to fame is that he was the janitor at Kelly Pickler’s high school. He’s never been on a plane. He may look like a hunter, but he hates killing animals.

Donny’s country accent is awesome and we think it’s delightful that he dresses like a deer hunter but actually says he wouldn’t hurt a fly. He likes to tell stories and thinks that smiling and being funny is a great way to gain trust from the other Houseguests. We’ve also learned that he grew his beard for 8 months and we’d love to see him get a challenge where he has to shave it off. We suspect he’s not bad looking under all that fluff, but we haven’t been able to track down non-bearded photos of Donny yet to find out.
Our Thoughts on Donny Thompson:
We are having a hard time figuring out how Donny will fare in the Big Brother 16 house. We are not seeing a potential winner here, or even a Top 3 player and think he’s probably going to have trouble making strong alliances and getting into the big strategy of the game.
However, we do think Donny could be one of those folks who floats quite a ways through the competition. He’s not going to come across as much of a threat to anyone. In fact, if anything, he’ll probably be like the player he most associates with, Spencer Clawson, who just kept being put up for eviction as a pawn and for other reasons, but didn’t go home week after week after week.
