Before originally being cast on Big Brother 16, veteran houseguest Nicole Franzel was just a superfan from the tiny town of Ubly, Michigan. This little village is so small, it only has a population of 858 people in 2010. Nicole is pretty much the most famous person to ever come out of Ubly, and she still lives and works there. Or did. Apparently she resigned from her job when the call to be on Big Brother 18 came in.

Nicole was one of the youngest members of the Big Brother 16 cast at just 21. However, she was far more knowledgeable about the game than most of the other houseguests that season. Before being cast on the show, she’d been watching the series since she was just 8 years old. Her favorite houseguest at the time was former winner Dan Gheesling. Now, however, she says her favorite player is Frank Eudy, who just happens to also be one of the veterans picked for season 18. Might we smell a future alliance in the works?

Nicole Franzel graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in nursing, the same year she was cast on Big Brother 16. Currently, Nicole is an ER nurse, something she shares in common with Big Brother 18 cast member Bridgette Dunning. Maybe they could bond over their shared careers and help each other out?
Before going into nursing, Nicole was a waitress at Angelina’s Eatery in Ubly, MI. Her former bosses were so proud of their girl when she was cast on the show that they opened up the restaurant for everyone to come in and watch the season premiere.
Unlike many contestants on Big Brother throughout the years, Nicole was not a ‘recruit’ for the show. She actually applied online and was chosen from her audition video. Casting was so eager to have her come in for an in-person interview that they called her pretty much the next day after she sent in her application.
Nicole said she was open to a showmance going into Big Brother 16, and that’s exactly what she got. She ended up cozying up with surfer guy Hayden Moss on the show, and the two were actually still dating until right before Big Brother 18 started. Unfortunately Nicole’s relationship with Hayden proved more detrimental to her strategy than helpful. She ended up becoming the first person in the history of the show to win head of Household and be evicted in a non-double eviction week.
Sadly, Nicole told former houseguest Jeff Schroeder in a CBS interview that she and Hayden broke up when she was cast on the show. “We decided to each go our own way for now,” she said. However, they were both still posting cute couples photos on their Instagram accounts not very long ago. Could it be a strategic breakup just for now? Or have they really split for good? Only time will tell. Nicole did say that there would be “no boys” distracting her from the game this season.
