CBS Big Brother Renewed: THREE New Seasons Ahead!

CBS Big Brother renewed through 2018! The news went out on Wednesday that our favorite guilty pleasure reality show has been renewed for an additional TWO seasons for the regular TV show, in addition to the CBS All Access only streaming season to debut this fall.

BIG BROTHER host Julie Chen. BIG BROTHER follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with 87 HD cameras -- seven more than last year -- and more than 100 microphones, recording their every move 24 hours a day. Each week, someone will be voted out of the house, with the last remaining Houseguest receiving the grand prize of $500,000. BIG BROTHER's three-hour premiere event spans two nights, with two-hours on Wednesday, June 22 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) and one-hour on Thursday, June 23 (9:00 -- 10:00 PM ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. This is great news for some fans who were worried that the network might be thinking of moving the show permanently to be available only through the CBS All Access service like the new Star Trek series. While the special fall season of Big Brother will be available only through the streaming subscription service, the show will return to the regular TV channel for summer 2017 and summer 2018.

There is still a bit of mystery out there about what each of the three seasons coming up are going to be called. In reporting the Big Brother renewed news, The Hollywood Reporter said “seasons 19 and 20 will air in summer 2017 and 2018, respectively” and that “season 19 is not to be confused with the new digital edition of the series” airing this fall on CBS All Access.

However, when host Julie Chen tweeted back on August 4 that she would be involved in the streaming service only edition of the show, she clearly stated “#BB19 I’ll see you this fall.” So we’re left rather confused whether the All Access version this fall will be ‘Big Brother 19’ or if it will be called something else, and the regularly airing TV show next summer will be BB19.

So far, we have virtually no information at all about the subscription only season of the show due to premiere shortly after the current TV season ends. CBS has released no details about it at all. We don’t know what kind of cast it is going to have, or what the theme will be, or if it will be significantly different in some way than the usual series. The only real fact that we do know, other than it will be available through All Access Pass only, is that the season will be slightly shorter than a regular TV one by several weeks.

Are you excited to know Big Brother is still going strong and is definitely going to be around the next couple of years for three and possibly even four more seasons if they do another All Access version next fall? We certainly are!
