Typically each season of Celebrity Big Brother UK has one or two HouseGuests that are mildly famous for a scandalous reason rather than having a notable talent or career. Celebrity Big Brother 2013, which began airing on August 22nd, includes the United States’ own Courtney Stodden as this season’s notorious HouseGuest with no other real claim to fame than controversy.

Each season usually has several HouseGuests whose stars no longer shine as brightly as they once did. These celebrities typically join the show with the hopes of reigniting public interest in their careers. The other popular reason for doing the show is an attempt to change the public perception of themselves or to clean up their image, this tactic has had varying degrees of success over the years.

In 2011, at the age of 16, Courtney Stodden married 51 year old actor Doug Hutchison. The marriage quickly caught the attention of tabloid magazines and websites. The large age difference and the fact that her parents had to sign off on the marriage were not the only scandal making issues about this union. What really caught the attention of the tabloid reading masses was the overtly sexualized image this young woman so desperately clings to and exemplifies at all times. At 16 years old, Courtney Stodden shocked the public by dressing like a stripper and having the hardened appearance of someone much older than she was.
Since the nuptials, almost three years ago, young Courtney has been chasing the spot light with cheaply produced music videos, outrageous pictures on social media, scantily clad public appearances, and a controversial appearance with her husband on season 2 of VH1’s Couples Therapy. Most recently Courtney had breast augmentation surgery going from a C cup to a DD before entering the Celebrity Big Brother 2013 house.
With cameras filming her 24/7 for three weeks, it will be interesting to see if she drops the sex kitten act and gives the audience a glimpse of the real Courtney.
